Paydos 2011, Viñedos Alonso del Yerro, DO Toro
Grape: 100% Tinta de Toro (Aka Tempranillo) – Aged 15 months maturing in barrels with thin lees
Colour: Exceptionally dark deep red.
Nose: Strawberry compote, pure cocoa beans and floral touch
Taste: It’s fruited (fresh grape) and spicy mouth develops its structure with a lot of density, always with elegant tannins.
Drink this Wine Only with food! It is a beast, and it is best drunk with a good piece of meat!
The “Terroir”: A plain full of sandy pieces of gravel with chalky clay underneath, at 720m of altitude. Ungrafted bush vines of around 30 to 60 years old and 900 vines/ha. The area has a continental climate with extreme temperatures, big thermic differences and a rainfall of less than 400mm per year.
Info: The Spanish Denomination of Origin (D.O.) Toro is one of the rising stars of the Duero valley in the south-eastern corner of the Zamora province, right next to Rueda and Ribera del Duero. Wine has been made here for 800 years and therefore it belongs to one of the oldest wine regions in the world. Toro is a small and high quality wine region and knows their own indigenous variety Tinta de Toro, the local variant of the tempranillo grape.
